Paul’s Advice on Morality and Marriage
Text: 1 Corinthians 7:1-9
Reflection and Question: This is one of the Biblical passages at the center of our faithful effort to integrate our sexuality and our spirituality. The best thing, Paul says, is to remain unmarried and chaste, as he does. But for the majority of us, who have not been given the gift of celibacy, “it is better to marry than to burn with passion.” This ideal of monogamy and fidelity in marriage applies to everyone, GLBT and straight alike. How does this passage help you integrate your sexuality with your spirituality?
Prayer: Holy Spirit, Truth Divine, we know that Paul expected Jesus to return at any moment. He spoke to that situation, with no conception of our prayer to You thousands of years later. Use his words to help us now live lives filled with Your love and power. Amen.
